Spiritual Nature

"Spiritual Nature, a landscape exhibit at Bowersock Gallery, speaks to the living, breathing beauty and soul of the wild, wild world which surrounds us. This awe-inspiring show will feature Darlou Gams, Emma Ashby, and some other special guests.

Spiritual Nature opens with a reception on Friday, July 29th, 2022 from 7-9 pm at Bowersock Gallery, Provincetown, MA, and runs through Tuesday, August 9th.

"Without question, these are some of the most evocative, dreamy, and inspirational landscapes to ever hit the gallery walls," Curator/Co-Owner Steve Bowersock says. "Each canvas is a unique spiritual moment that captures nature's majesty. "And there’s nothing just ‘passive or pretty' about these works,” he adds. "Darlou and Emma have caught something very tangible and deep about the world we live in."

Gams, an oil painter, is a seasoned master of her style and medium.

"Spiritual Nature" presents her highly sought-after, tonal, moody landscapes of bucolic scenes set against dramatic skies. She is a graduate of Art Center College of Design, California and her work can be found in collections and exhibits worldwide.

Ashby, a graduate of the Royal College of Art, London, works in encaustic, a pigmented molten beeswax medium, with a unique style unmatched.

"Spiritual Nature" will feature her series of expressive coastal landscapes. The power of each image, whether craggy rocks, placid or ferocious oceans, or bountiful windswept wildflowers and seagrass, carries a tangible sense of sea winds, and salty air.

Both Ashby’s and Gams' work create a place, a field, woodland, or oceanside scene which elicits a sense of altered air density, smell, and temperature, a truly visceral experience.

"These days, more than ever, we find ourselves gravitating towards that which brings inner peace, and are hungry for all things soul-feeding,” Bowersock says. "The works of these women take us right there front and center. Their choices of color, texture, and subject matter conspire beautifully to create a magical setting, a very real, calming place of beauty and peace.”
