In his latest exhibition Siguiendo la ruta (Following the route), Dairan Fernandez de la Fuente explores themes of memory, family history and immigration. Art Deco motifs abound in the artist’s latests colorful paintings, woodcut prints, and drawings on view at Galería Cubana. Fernandez has long been inspired by the 1930s, a time when his his family immigrated to Cuba. Planes, trains and automobiles are symbolic themes in his vibrant work. The artist finds beauty in the machines of that time, and reflects on how these modes of transportation are used by those in search of better opportunities.
