The Schoolhouse Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new works selected for a spring exhibition. "Alla Prima," meaning "at once" or "at first attempt" in Italian, refers to a painting technique where the artist applies wet paint to wet paint, often in a single sitting, resulting in a spontaneous and immediate style. In French it connects with "Premier coup," meaning "first strike" or "first attempt" in that language, referring to a painting style or technique where a painting is intended to be completed in a single sitting, often with a focus on direct and improvisational brushwork. This feeling of freshness; of finding and addressing the original moment is the essence of each work in the exhibition.
The exhibition begins with a reception at the gallery on Friday April 18, 2025 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM.
‘Alla Prima’ includes works by Elise Ansel, Mark Adams, Bailey Bob Bailey, Jen Bradley, Maud Bryt, Rebecca Doughty, Sean Flood, Elliott Green, Diana Horowitz, Lydia Kinney, Tess Michalik and Stephanie Sassoon.
