En Tiempos Difíciles (In difficult times)
Galeria Cubana is pleased to present the exhibition En Tiempos Difíciles (In difficult times) featuring paintings, prints and drawings of three artists whose work reflects the challenges facing the Cuban people today. In their own unique way, each artist addresses critical issues — emigration and the severance of families, racism, and the acute shortage of material goods suffered by Cubans made worse in the pandemic.
Afro Cuban Yasser Rittoles dares the viewer to apprehend human struggle throughout intimate self portraits that say “see me”; “see us”. Notice our view and the symbolic veils that subvert reception and expression. Do no look away.
As in the past, Edel Bordón’s latest works are steeped deep in emotion. Bordón addresses issues of collective struggle faced in the pandemic such as isolation and separation, and questions what is next.
Guillermo Estrada Viera awakens ones consciousness in his paintings. His use of beautiful colors invites us to view, but the figures are representations of those who lack resources under dire circumstances.
