Marian Roth THEN AND NOW;
Reflecting on 40 Years, a Retrospective Exhibition
May 24 – June 4, 2024, opening reception with the artist is Friday, May 24, 6–9 pm

Join On Center Gallery as they celebrate 40 years of Marian Roth’s career. Marian is an accomplished multi-disciplinary artist. Her various mediums include photography, painting, and ceramics. This retrospective exhibition will include dozens of older and newer works, including new paintings and ceramics.

Marian Roth moved to Provincetown in 1982 to fulfill a dream of living and making art in a community of creative people. She has never thought of leaving. “Provincetown has been my muse since I moved here in 1982. It is here that my life as an artist really began.” Well-known in the world of photography for her innovative camera obscura work, Marian’s background in photography continues to influence her work as a painter.

The Joy Provincetown, Marian Roth

"I aim, with my paintings, to achieve the same kinds of feelings I invoked with my pinhole imagery––among them a sense of being in place.” You will see continuity of that statement in Marian’s ceramic works as well.

For her work, Marian has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Pollock Krasner Fellowship, a fellowship from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and was honored with a lifetime award for artistic excellence by Provincetown Art Association and Museum. Marian also installed a walk-in camera obscura during an exhibition of her work at the Griffin Museum of Photography.
